I'm Mahala Dixson, and the face behind the camera of Fur Ever Yours Photography.  Welcome to my website!

About

Mahala (Mae) Dixson

I'm the face behind the camera! Providing meaningful photography to the Moberly, MO area. I'm 28 years old, married for 6 years and a Mom of 3 beautiful children.  I've loved photography and cameras for about as long as I can remember. Growing up my Mother always had me infront of the camera.  As I got older I began to explore the world from behind a camera.  It wasn't until high school and college that I realized how much I loved the camera.  Once my first child was born in 2007, my love for the camera exploded as I began following my daughters every move with the camera, wanting to capture every moment of her infancy as it flew by. In 2009 my twin sons were born, and the chaos began! Shortly after the youngest twin turned 3 months old he was diagnosed with cancer.  The most frightening words a Mom can hear is "Your child has cancer".  He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. I didn't know what would happen to my son, or our family.  The camera was never out of my hand as I documented every moment of his life and our life trying to cling to every moment that I could "just in case".  Today, my son (Keegan) is nearly 4 years old and your typical preschooler! Keeping up with twin brother (Marshall) and big sister (Kamilah).  Life has begun to resume it's normalcy in the past few years as my son is now No Evidence of Disease, but he still goes in for scans on a regular basis.

In 2012 I was asked to photograph some dogs in need of homes at a local dog rescue group.  A month later I was at the local animal shelter photographing many adorable dogs in need of homes. I'm so glad I ended up there! I've met so many wonderful people through the shelter and rescue groups. They have been a huge driving force behind me going further with my photography.  For that, I am thankful.

Now I work with two different rescue groups, and the local animal shelter.  Volunteering my time and services in helpig dogs find their "FUR EVER" homes.  The past year has been a whirl wind of whiskers and tails and helping hundreds find their Fur Ever home.  Every dog deserves a home of their own.

I myself have two dogs.  Molly whom we've had since she was 5 weeks old.  Rescued from a back yard breeder who was just getting rid of them and going to do who knows what to the rest if no one took them.  Molly is now nearly 3 years old and my best furry friend. Our sweet Karmen just turned 2 and we rescued her upon moving into our new home when a neighbor wasn't giving her the attention she deserved. Both ladies are best friends and sisters and I'm so glad they are part of our family. I also have two cats, Tobi a black and gray manx tabby cat, and Severus a black and gray tabby cat as well.  We also have a teddy bear hamster (Rhino) and a beta fish (Red).

Fur Ever Yours photography came out with some gentle prodding from friends and family who thought I had a talent and wanted me to put it to use.  So with their love and suport Fur Ever Yours Photography was born.

I greatly enjoy photographing pets and helping them find homes.  I love being a part of a family making memories that will last a life time by being there and taking photos of their special moments. I want people to be able to express themselves and love their photos for a life time.

My Pride and Joys

Kamilah (Kams) is 5 years old and one sassy little diva part of the time! She's a wonderful big sister and full of style and spunk.  She loves PINK! Her favorite books are anything Fancy Nancy, Pinkalicious or any of the Cupcake Fairy books. She loves to model and pose for the camera and she loves to get ahold of the camera and take photos too, she's a very good little assistant.  She loves volunteering with mommy at the animal shelter and is a mini dog whisperer.  For her 5th birthday she collected donations for the animal shelter in lieu of birthday presents for herself. She can't wait to start kindergarten next year!

Marshall is almost 4 years old and is one handsome little sweet heart.  He's a major flirt you gotta watch out for him.  He's a 100% all boy, loves playing in the dirt and loves cars, trains, dinosaurs and anything that makes noise.  He's a big Captain America fan (any super hero for that matter) and Power Rangers is top dog around here when it comes to what he wants to watch on TV.  Marshall generally tries to run from the camera when it's pointed at him, but he's more than happy to help Mommy when I'm trying to photograph dogs or kitties! Marshall was diagnosed with Complex Partial Seizues shortly after his first birthday, thankfully today he is med free and hasn't had a seizure in over a year!

Keegan is almost 4 years old and is our little Spider Man.  He is a Childhood Cancer Survivor! Two and a half years No Evidence of Diseease.  He's a totally normal little boy running, climbing, playing in the dirt and causing every normal little mischief that boys cause.  He's a ham for the camera! He loves Power Rangers and riding his spiderman bike as fast as he can down the road nearly giving his Mommy a heart attack! He's a bit of a dare devil!! Keegan is the youngest participating survivor in the local Relay For Life, and every September we help raise awareness for Childhood Cancer by doing things for St. Baldricks.

Karmen and Molly

My fur  girls, my FUR EVER inspirations.  Always willing to let me put them in front of the camera and practice a doggy photo idea.  I appreciate how cooperative and goofy they are! They have given me a lot of experience in photographing dogs, only my girls would put up with me and the camera! Molly enjoys a good rousing game of tug of war and fetch.  She absolutely loves the dog park.  Karmen loves to snuggle with her "babies" she has quite the collection of stuffed animals.  She also loves to play fetch.  Karmen enjoys going to the dog park too and chasing Molly.  They are both a joy to have in our home and I'm glad to call them part of the family!

Volunteer Work

Every Friday you can find me, and often times my daughter at the local Animal Shelter photographing dogs in need of homes.  I also run the social media for the shelter, fostering dogs sometimes too and assisting on transports and just in general volunteer wherever I am needed, from volunteer day, to bathing dogs, walking dogs, helping with fundraisers and attending adoption events or anything I can do to help.  I give lots of love to the shelter dogs, they are the ones who inspired me to do what I am doing today when it comes to photographing pets.  I never would have considered photographing pets had it not been for the shelter animal shelter dogs. I also do some photography for K9s4U which is a rescue group located in Illinois. (Link button provided to check out their Facebook page!).  They work closely with our shelter and I do some photography and graphic designing for them. I also help another local rescue and grooming facility in town, K9 Kountry Klub (Link button also provided to their website). I greatly enjoy volunteering to help these three amazing groups.  Volunteer work makes you feel nice knowing that you are doing something to give back and help someone else in need, helping someone who cannot help themselves, the dogs.
